Position Title
Allen Van Deynze, Plant Sciences
Hi! My name is Julia Sherman. In 2018, I spent 10 days in Chone, Ecuador learning about sustainable agriculture and the use of regenerative crops in construction and architecture. I was inspired by the use of plants to solve societal problems, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Genetics and Plant Biology, with a minor in Energy and Resources, from UC Berkeley in 2021.
I now work full-time as a Research Assistant in Cucumber Breeding at HM.CLAUSE in Davis, CA where I'm concurrently pursuing a Master of Science. Since 2021 I have gained experience in labor & project management, simultaneously managed two biology labs at UC Berkeley, and worked as a Greenhouse Operations Coordinator for i-Cultiver at the USDA Plant Gene Expression Center in Albany, CA.
I am now conducting a Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) on the cucumber germplasm at HM.CLAUSE with Professor Allen Van Deynze and Cucumber Breeder Ellen Evans. Outside of research & plants - I love to swim, travel, and share food with friends.
