Bio
My name is Armin Mafakheri. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Daniel Potter and Douglas Cook’s lab. I’ve spent the past decade mapping climate adaptation in wild hops (Humulus spp.) across continents. My research merges field ecology with population genomics to decode drought resilience—leveraging tools like quantitative genetics, drone imaging, environmental niche modeling, and collaborations with industry partners (e.g., Hopsteiner). The broader goal is clear: to develop low-input hop varieties adapted to future climates, with reduced dependence on irrigation. By connecting genomes, ecosystems, and agricultural resilience, my work contributes to both fundamental evolutionary understanding and real-world breeding solutions.
